Social Science courses such as Ethnic Studies integrate voices, experiences, and viewpoints of black, indigenous, and people of color [BIPOC] which provides students with an opportunity to increase their ability to understand, appreciate, and interact with peers who are from different backgrounds, cultures, or belief systems. By their very nature, Ethnic Studies courses can provide students with the content knowledge and learning opportunities to critically think about events, individuals, ideas, and policies that have impacted BIPOC communities, the nation, and the world around us. As informed citizens, students enrolled in Ethnic Studies will naturally be motivated to take independent and collective actions to address ongoing issues of racism, discrimination, and systemic oppression.
